WESTBOROUGH, Mass. – National Grid today announced a tentative three-year agreement with Local 12321-01 of the United Steelworkers.
The USW unit, whose current contract will expire on Monday, represents about 220 of the utility company’s natural gas employees in Rhode Island.
Details of the new contract will not be released until it is ratified by the union’s membership, the utility said. A vote is planned later this week.
“We believe this agreement reflects the very positive relationship National Grid has had with the Steelworkers Union since we acquired the Rhode Island gas business in August of 2006,” James Howe, acting chief operating officer of National Grid’s U.S. gas distribution business, said in a statement.
The agreement is the last of five negotiated in the past month between the company and unions representing more than 5,100 electric and natural gas workers in New England and New York state.
National Grid, a division of the U.K.-based National Grid plc, distributes electricity and natural gas to nearly 4 million customers in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York and Rhode Island. Additional information on is available at www.nationalgridus.com.
