PROVIDENCE – The inaugural Brown Research Achievement Awards were presented to six Brown University professors by the school’s Office of the Vice President for Research, according to a mid-April release.
“The pursuit of knowledge through research has led to many exceptional accomplishments at Brown,” said David A. Savitz, vice president for research, in a statement. “Research enhances all aspects of the University, including undergraduate and graduate education, and enriches society in many ways.”
Professors honored with the inaugural awards include:
- Maurice Herlihy, professor of computer science, received the Research Innovation Award;
- Vincent Mor, professor of health services, policy and practice, and Constantine Dafermos, professor of applied mathematics, received the Distinguished Research Achievement Award;
- Susan Moffitt, associate professor of political science and international and public affairs; Joseph Braun, assistant professor of epidemiology; and Tim Kraska, assistant professor of computer science, received Early Career Research Achievement Awards.
Each recipient received a $5,000 research stipend. Brown’s OVPR plans to continue presenting the awards on an annual basis.
