PROVIDENCE — Six tractor-trailer trucks owned and operated by North Kingstown-based Commodity Haulers Express Inc. were seized by Maine State Police on Dec. 6 and the company is facing felony theft of service charges for three years’ worth of unpaid tolls.
Maine State Police, according to a news release Monday, was asked to investigate a toll-evasion case by the Maine Turnpike Authority. The authority reported to state police that Commodity Haulers Express, which has a fleet of approximately 20 vehicles, allegedly amassed approximately $75,000 in unpaid tolls over a three-year period using 12 tractor-trailer trucks, the release said.
Commodity Haulers Express hauls Poland Spring Water and the company was not aware of the unpaid tolls, according to a release. Maine State Police said the Commodity Haulers Express had been notified “multiple times” by the Maine Turnpike Authority about the unpaid bill and the Maine Bureau of Vehicles has suspended the company’s right to operate its vehicles in the state.
The vehicles that were seized Dec. 6 allegedly have unpaid tolls ranging from $670 to $12,934.
