WEST WARWICK – Dr. Soneath Pond has joined Thundermist Health Center in West Warwick as a primary care provider, the center announced.
Pond comes to Thundermist with more than 20 years of experience as a health care provider. He worked at the Providence Community Health Centers at Central Health on Cranston Street for six years prior to coming to Thundermist. He is heavily involved in the Cambodian community, as the president of the Cambodian Political Party and the president of Project AIDS Khmer, a nonprofit organization in Rhode Island to help Cambodians with AIDS.
“I have no preference for any specific race/ethnicity or gender but all patients, regardless of their backgrounds. Here at Thundermist, I find there is a very large and diverse population of patients that come to get their medical care here,” Pond said.
Pond is a graduate of St. George’s University School of Medicine, where he received his medical degree. He completed his residency in internal medicine at Roger Williams Hospital. He said there were many reasons to stay in Rhode Island after his residency, including his family, wife and children, and friends.
“Also, since we have a large … Cambodian population living here, I decided to remain and practice my medicine here,” Pond said. “I am excited to join a health center I know has the best interest of the community in mind.”
