PROVIDENCE – The city of Providence was named as one of the best cities for LGBT-friendly retirement in the United States, according to a recent ranking from SeniorAdvice.com.
According to the list, Providence is ranked seventh out of 20 cities not only for its diverse population and rich scenery, but also for the support LGBT-identifying individuals receive from civil rights organizations like Pride RI and the American Civil Liberties Union of Rhode Island. Providence also has 120 senior living facilities, according to the rankings.
Boston ranked 13th on the list for the city’s abundance of hospitals and home health providers that make for easy health care access and groups such as GLAD and Fenway Health that support LGBT issues.
Topping the list is Fort Lauderdale, whose population is over 15 percent seniors, according to the ranking. The city’s abundance of gay-friendly businesses, low assisted living and home healthcare costs and organizations that dedicate their work toward the betterment of the LGBT community makes it the ranking’s best place for an LGBT-friendly retirement.
