Providence’s Washington Street opens to two-way traffic July 8th

Mayor Vincent A. Cianci says that as part of the overall downtown recirculation plan to improve the flow of vehicles throughout downtown Providence, Washington Street will be opened to two-way traffic at 7 a.m., Monday, July 8th.

The change affects the portion of Washington Street running from the intersection of Dorrance Street to Service Road Number 8 on the east side of Route I-95. Two-way traffic along the Washington Street overpass to I-95 will be instituted by the end of the month, following completion of bridge repairs by the State Department of Transportation.

The stretch of Washington Street running alongside Kennedy Plaza that reopened May 13th of this year will continue to be one-way, accommodating eastbound vehicles only.
