John D. Hartshorn has been named sales account executive at PURVIS Systems. He will be working with municipalities, educational institutions and emergency response organizations nationally to present PURVIS’ public safety solutions, put to use locally by the Rhode Island Chapter of the American Red Cross and multiple fire and EMS departments including the Central Coventry Fire District, East Providence, Foster and Harmony townships.

PBN: What issues are addressed by implementing PURVIS Systems?
HARTSHORN: Our customers in Rhode Island and across the country are well prepared, from a technology standpoint, to protect citizens. Generally speaking, the systems offered by PURVIS help eliminate core problems with organization and data – providing better access to necessary information about equipment, routes or specific locations, and eliminating extra steps in delivering that information from dispatchers to responders. PURVIS technology greatly increases the number of responders that can be reached with a single transmission and helps them to more accurately monitor, evaluate and respond to an emergency situation.

PBN: What type of service would PURVIS provide public school systems?
HARTSHORN: All educational institutions in America, including those in Rhode Island, can benefit from better, more widespread communications. In addition to providing fire, police and volunteer units with optimal systems for emergency response, PURVIS provides an Emergency Notification System for use by educational institutions to assist faculty and students during emergencies or other campus-wide situations. The system allows a key official to send mass notification of an emergency or other important announcement to hundreds of staff or students in a matter of minutes, making use of any variety of channels, such as text messages, e-mails and phone calls. In addition to critical emergency situations, applications of the system could include anything from snow days to meeting notifications.
In addition, PURVIS remains on call 24/7 to address anything from serious technical issues to simple questions, empowering the staff to take the first step towards providing safety for their students.

PBN: What kinds of green practices is PURVIS Systems currently using internally?
HARTSHORN: Over time, agencies of any size accumulate a great deal of paper, whether it takes the shape of forms, faxes, reports or any other documentation. Our technology is designed to automate those processes previously managed on paper, to become organizationally and environmentally positive. •
