Senator Jack Reed (D-RI) and Congressman Patrick J. Kennedy (D-RI) will join with Daniel P. Burnham, chairman and CEO of Raytheon Company this morning to congratulate the employees of Raytheon’s Naval & Maritime Integrated Systems of Portsmouth for becoming a part of the team which will design the next generation of high-tech warships.
Raytheon’s Naval & Maritime Integrated Systems will directly benefit from the Navy’s award of a $2.9 billion contract for the new DD-X series of warships. Raytheon Company’s share of the contract, announced on April 29, is expected to total $1.36 billion over the next three years as a partner with Northrop Grumman.
As part of the contract, the development of the combat system on the ships will be performed at Raytheon’s Portsmouth facility, in conjunction with the Naval Undersea Warfare Center in Newport. It is expected that approximately 350 jobs will be added in Portsmouth by Jan. 2004.
