NEW YORK – The number of young people living with their parents has reached a percentage not seen since the World War II era.
In 2015, almost 40 percent of adults under age 34 were living with their parents or other relatives, according to a report in the Wall Street Journal, which analyzed data from the real estate website Trulia.
The share of young adults living with parents reached a peak of 41 percent in 1940, and declined over time to a low of 24.1 percent in 1960, according to the article.
In 2005, one-third of adults were living with their parents. The trend has implications for home ownership, and the article cited rising rents and rigid mortgage standards as contributing factors.
