What Grows On in Rhode Island Seeks More Event Listings for its
Extensive 2009 Earth Day and Arbor Day Calendar
Providence, RI — The Providential Gardener seeks more Earth Day and Arbor Day events to add to its already extensive online environmental Calendar, What Grows On in Rhode Island. The Earth Day/Arbor Day subcalendar lists dozens of celebrations and cleanups for 2009, as well as several Arbor Day events, including tree plantings in parks and along streets. All the Eco-Depots and several electronic recycling opportunities are also listed.
Organizations in and near Rhode Island that are holding public Earth Day and Arbor Day events may submit listings to the Calendar free of charge.
“Rhode Islanders love our beautiful state and care about the environment,” said Susan Korté, managing editor of both The Providential Gardener and What Grows On in Rhode Island. “Hundreds of groups in Rhode Island care for Narragansett Bay, the beaches, watersheds, rivers, wetlands, parks, forests, and nature preserves. We don’t have time, though, to look at all the individual websites, so we miss hearing about events we’d really like to go to. What Grows On in Rhode Island brings all this activity together and makes it easy for Rhode Islanders to participate in Earth Day events through its searchable online Calendar.”
Several events occur on the actual Earth Day (Wednesday, April 22) and Arbor Day (Saturday, April 25). But many communities schedule Earth Day and Arbor Day events throughout the spring. During April and into May, Earth Day and Arbor Day activities are listed for Bristol, Burrillville, Central Falls, Cranston, Coventry, Cumberland, Jamestown, Lincoln, Middletown, Newport, North Kingstown, North Smithfield, Pawtucket, Portsmouth, Prudence Island, Providence, Smithfield, Tiverton, Warwick, Westerly, West Warwick, West Greenwich, and Woonsocket. More events are added daily.
What Grows On in Rhode Island is listing special Earth Day and Arbor Day events organized by numerous environmental and community groups, including the Norman Bird Sanctuary, Audubon Society of Rhode Island, Save the Bay, Appalachian Mountain Club, Friends of India Point Park, Narragansett Bay Commission, Friends of the Moshassuck, Buckeye Brook Coalition, West Warwick Land Trust, the Kent County Jaycees, Roger WIlliams Park Zoo, Smithfield Conservation Commission, North Kingstown High School, Tiverton Garden Club, and the Apeiron Institute for Sustainable Living, among others.
“The Calendar is also a record of environmental work in the state. Rhode Islanders will be amazed to see the full range of their environmental efforts,” Susan Korté said. “What Grows On in Rhode Island helps each of us to see the big picture and find our place to pitch in.”
