Local high school students recently took field trips to the R.I. Convention Center and Chelo’s Hometown Bar & Grill in Warwick to learn about the hospitality industry. The Rhode Island Hospitality Education Foundation sponsored the trips for students enrolled in ProStart, a two-year hospitality career-building program designed by the National Restaurant Association.
“This is a great opportunity for ProStart students at Providence Career & Technical to learn about potential careers in hospitality and we hope everyone was able to take away valuable knowledge about the industry,” said Dale J. Venturini, president and CEO of the foundation.
Students who went to the Convention Center were given an extensive tour of the event space and kitchen. At Chelo’s, students took turns testing various meal preparation and front-of-house positions in the restaurant. Bob Crowley, vice president of operations, and other members of the staff were there to share their experiences and offer advice to the students. •
