NEWPORT – Sail Newport recently celebrated the topping-off for its construction of a new Marine Education and Recreation Center.
The nonprofit sailing center has received $6.3 million in donations for the facility, executive director Brad Read reported recently. The $10 million campaign, Campaign for Blue Space, was launched last year.
The general contractor is Behan Brothers.
At the topping-off ceremony, which signifies construction of the highest point or structural beam of a new building, state Senate President M. Teresa Paiva Weed, along with local officials, lifted the new cupola to the highest point of the educational building.
The new venue is scheduled to open in August.
