PROVIDENCE — The American Red Cross of Rhode Island has named U.S. Senators Jack Reed and Lincoln Chafee the winners of the 2001 Longfellow Humanitarian Award.
Reed and Chafee were selected for their “deep commitment to improving the quality of life — not only for the people of this state, but for our country and the entire world,” said Barbara G. DeCesare, executive director of the American Red Cross of Rhode Island.
The senators will be honored at an awards dinner on March 23 at the Ocean Cliff Hotel in Newport. Four Rhode Island companies — Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Rhode Island, MetLife Home & Auto, Narragansett Electric and WJAR-NBC 10 — will be awarded “Community Safety Awards” at the same event.
Tickets for the awards dinner are $150 per person, with corporate tables including special recognition available for $2,000. For more information, contact the American Red Cross of Rhode Island at (401) 831-7700 ext. 101.
