Royal Dutch/Shell Group’s Shell Oil
unit was named in a federal lawsuit brought by survivors of a
deadly Rhode Island nightclub fire in February, the Associated
Press reported.
Shell Oil and its affiliate, Motiva Enterprises, were added
to the lawsuit because the owners of The Station nightclub gave
away concert tickets from a Shell gas station they owned, AP said,
citing Ronald Resmini, an attorney representing the survivors.
About 100 people were killed and 200 were injured in the
fire, which began after a band’s pyrotechnic display ignited foam
on the club’s walls, AP reported.
Shawn Frederick, a Shell spokeswoman, told AP the company
will “vigorously defend” itself in court.
