Gov. Gina M. Raimondo reversed herself on March 15 when she announced that the state has extended its contract with Deloitte Consulting LLP to operate and maintain the RI Bridges public-benefits computer system. The decision stands in direct opposition to Raimondo’s previous declaration that she couldn’t imagine working with the company again. But a number of issues, among them expected savings from the contract, the difficulty of finding a new vendor to essentially build a new system from scratch, and improved service over the last months, persuaded the governor to change her mind and sign on with Deloitte through June 2021. The question is, should she have done it?
