SteereHouse Nursing & RehabilitationCenter today announced that it has elected four new members to its Board of Directors. Each elected Board Member brings a level of experience, expertise and commitment, which along with the current Board, will contribute to the operational and financial health of Steere House. The Steere House Board now stands at eleven members.
Remarking on the recent expansion of the Steere House Board, Andrew C. Spacone, Board President, said,” We are increasing the size of the Board and the diversity of experience among the members to be better aligned with the ever changing regulatory environment and challenges Steere House will face in the coming years.”
The following are joining the Steere House Board of Directors:
Paul S. Astphan, RN, MBA
Currently Primary Care Nurse Manager at the VeteransAdministrationMedicalCenter in Providence, Paul Astphan brings his extensive healthcare experience to the Steere House Board. He has held positions at SturdyMemorialHospital, Coram Healthcare and Rhode IslandHospital. Twice-awarded the Bronze Star for his service in the Gulf War and Operation Iraqi Freedom, Astphan has a twenty-three year military career. He served most recently as Commandeer, 399thCombatSupportHospital at Fort Devens, MA. Astphan is an MBA graduate, specializing in Health Care Administration, of BryantUniversity and holds a BSN from Rhode IslandCollege.
Linda M. Cannistra, BS, MBA, CCRC
Since 2000, Linda Cannistra has served as Chief Executive Officer of Safe Harbor Clinical Research in East Providence, RI. Throughout her career, Cannistra has worked extensively in the area of healthcare research, regulatory affairs and ultimately management at a number of healthcare companies throughout Massachusetts and Rhode Island. She holds an MBA with honors from BryantUniversity and Bachelors of Science, Biology and Arts, Chemistry from ProvidenceCollege. Cannistra serves on the Board of Thundermist Health Center and Thundermist Foundation. She is a Certified Clinical Research Coordinator (CCRC) and a member of a number of professional associations.
David M. Mullen, J.D., MPH
A recent MPH graduate of the ColumbiaMailmanSchool for Public Health, David Mullen is currently a Health Policy Intern in Lt. Governor Elizabeth Roberts’ Office. Mullen holds a J.D. from GeorgeWashingtonLawSchool and a BA with honors from GeorgetownUniversity, College of Arts and Sciences. He is an active volunteer in the Providence community, participating in activities for such organizations as the Childhood Lead Action Project, Rhode Island Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program and the GeorgeWileyCenter.
Also elected to the Steere House Board of Directors in June was William G. Arnold.
William G. Arnold, MBA, CPCU, ARM, AIS
William Arnold is Resident Vice President at EMC Insurance Companies and President of The Union Mutual of Providence, a wholly owned subsidiary of EMC. A graduate of F.W.OlinGraduateSchool of Business at BabsonCollege, Arnold holds an MBA. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from BryantUniversity. Arnold also holds several industry licenses and designations and is a past officer and active Board member of the Society of Charter Property Casualty Underwriters, Rhode Island Chapter.

Steere House is an independent 120-bed, non-profit nursing and rehabilitation center. Founded in 1874, Steere House has kept pace over the past 139 years with the ever-changing needs of patients and residents. The organization offers short stay or post hospital care for individuals returning to community settings, but also has a long history of care for those with memory loss from Alzheimer’s disease and other related dementias. A teaching facility, Steere House offers enrollees of the Brown Physician Geriatric Fellow Program, University of Rhode Island Pharmacy Program, Community College of Rhode Island Nursing School and others educational experiences that enhance the care to those we serve.
