WASHINGTON – In a new study, the Coalition of Service Industries analyzes the benefits provided by the services sector to each U.S. state.
It found that Rhode Island exported $1.3 billion in services in 2005, including business, professional and technical services; travel services; royalties and license fees; transportation services; and financial services.
The CSI study also found that 82.9 percent of the state’s gross domestic product is generated by the service sector.
The sector also generates 82 percent of local employment, the coalition found. Its report adds that 22,000 jobs in the state “are supported by” foreign investment in services.
