PROVIDENCE – About 5,000 Rhode Island Energy customers in the Pawtucket area are without power due to a problem with a substation, the company confirmed Monday.
Rhode Island Energy spokesperson Caroline Pretyman said there was an issue with a substation in Cumberland that led to a peak outage of 12,000 customers in in Pawtucket, Central Falls and Attleboro at 11 a.m.
The company was able to halve the number of outages by switching the affected customers to alternate circuits, Pretyman said, adding full restoration was expected by Monday afternoon.
