Texas Instruments Inc. will eliminate about 800 jobs from its sensors and
controls division in Attleboro, the company announced last week.
Workers 55 years old and older will be offered early retirement. The rest will be let go as the Dallas-based company opts to move certain production lines to China, Korea, Mexico and elsewhere, as a cost-cutting measure and to be closer to its customers, the company said.
It is part of an effort to “preserve the strength and competitiveness” of the sensors and control unit, the company said in a press release. It expects to save about $35 million through the move.
Texas Instruments, a manufacturer of semiconductors and circuits, plans to keep its sensors and control business in Attleboro, and expects to add higher-paying engineering and business-development jobs there. After the layoffs, which the company said will take place in May, the facility will employ about 1,300 workers.
Texas Instruments will take a $41-million charge related to the restructuring.
