PROVIDENCE – Textron Systems Corp., a division of Textron Inc. (NYSE: TXT), says demand for its Armored Security Vehicle remains strong.
Despite the Marine Corps’ recent statement that it will place no more orders under the Mine Resistant Ambush-Protected Vehicle program, Textron Systems still expects to deliver about 530 ASVs this year and at least as many next year, the company said.
“We continue to experience both strong demand and exceptional customer feedback for the ASV,” said Frank Tempesta, president of Textron Systems. “Through our participation in the MRAP program,” he added, “we were able to make some design improvements … that will produce substantial benefits for present and future [ASV] customers.”
Textron Systems, through its New Orleans-based Marine & Land Systems unit, had been one of nine companies asked to develop MRAP prototypes for consideration by the Marines. The company’s test vehicle was based on the M1117 ASV, a 4×4 wheeled armored vehicle that Textron System manufactures mostly for the Army.
