The TJX Companies, Inc. reports May 2001 sales

The TJX Companies, Inc. (NYSE: TJX) today reported May 2001 sales figures. Sales for the four week period ended June 2, 2001 were $789 million, up 8% over $732 million achieved during the same four week period ended June 3, 2000. For the seventeen weeks ended June 2, 2001, sales reached $3,110 million, an increase of 8% over last year’s $2,884 million.

Consolidated comparable store sales for the four week period ended June 2, 2001 as well as the seventeen week year-to-date period were flat with last year.

The TJX Companies, Inc. is a worldwide retailer of apparel and home fashions. The company operates 665 T.J. Maxx, 552 Marshalls, 97 HomeGoods and 37 A.J. Wright stores in the United States. In Canada, the company operates 123 Winners and 6 HomeSense stores, and in Europe, 81 T.K. Maxx stores.
