Hasbro Children’s Hospital received a $100,000 donation from the nonprofit organization Golf Fights Cancer.
The money was raised in October 2008 during the Norton, Mass.-based nonprofit’s annual “Good Guy Invitational,” a daylong golf tournament at Newport Country Club. Each year, proceeds are donated to an organization specializing in cancer treatment, services and research.
Hasbro Children’s Hospital was chosen as the 2008 recipient to support the construction of a children’s playroom in the Tomorrow Fund Clinic, the new pediatric hematology and oncology clinic. The playroom will be centrally located within the clinic and will offer a much larger and brighter space for children and youths.
“Our young hematology and oncology patients who receive outpatient care often need to be at our clinic for treatment appointments that can last for hours,” said Dr. Robert Klein, pediatrician-in-chief of Hasbro Children’s Hospital. “The new playroom that Golf Fights Cancer is providing will allow for a more relaxing and fun patient experience.”
“We are proud to be able to support the great work that is being done at Hasbro Children’s Hospital,” said Brian Oates, chairman of Golf Fights Cancer. “We are thrilled with the opportunity to expand the impact of GFC and the credit goes to all the Rhode Island golfers that chose to make a difference and give back to their local community.”
The new, larger Tomorrow Fund Clinic is expected to open at Hasbro Children’s Hospital in the spring. •
