PROVIDENCE – A federal grand jury this month charged two Woonsocket-based machine shop owners – along with the wife of one of the accused – with tax fraud security, alleging they used a series of ruses to conceal income.
According to a statement from U.S. Attorney Robert Clark Corrente’s office, the seven-count indictment alleges the owners – Bruce Lapierre, 47, and Albert Martin, 58 – used the personal banking account of Lorraine Martin, 59, to conceal business receipts for their shop, Classic Machine. The indictment also alleges that the defendants used multiple business names, including Banner Technologies, Circle Machine and Preferred Enterprises, to further conceal their assets.
If convicted, all three defendants face a maximum of five years in prison and a $250,000 fine for each count of the indictment. •
