SOUTH KINGSTOWN – URI has launched a survey to determine Rhode Islanders’ awareness of the one-year-old temporary caregiver insurance program and its impact on employees.
The research was funded with a $161,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Labor to the R.I. Department of Labor and Training, which hired URI as a subcontractor to perform the research.
The program provides up to four weeks of wage replacement to workers caring for seriously ill children, spouses, domestic partners, parents, or grandparents or to bond with a newborn or newly adopted child or foster child. Built in to the program is a provision protecting workers from losing their jobs. Approximately 4,000 Rhode Islanders benefited from the program in its first year.
