PROVIDENCE – Continuing to address the lack of affordable housing available to Rhode Islanders, in early January the United Way of Rhode Island awarded $100,000 in grants from its Housing for All Fund to four local organizations.
“Too many working families are … spending more than one-third of their income to keep a roof over their heads and face difficult choices among the basic needs they can afford,” said Anthony Maione, UWRI president and CEO, in a statement.
Foster Forward, the Housing Network of Rhode Island, Rhode Island Center for Justice and West Elmwood Housing Development Corp. were chosen by UWRI as grant recipients because of their ability to put promising program ideas into action and facilitate change. While UWRI did release the amounts awarded each organization in 2016, this year the organization refused to itemize the total $100,000 in grants.
In his prepared remarks, Maione called the organizations’ efforts “a lot of good work” and went on to say “we are excited to see the progress of the programs we’re investing in.”
The UWRI Housing for All Fund was established almost two years ago in March 2016. This second round of Housing for All Fund grants was the product of the 18 applications totaling $889,500 received by UWRI in October and follows the $155,000 in Housing for All Fund grants awarded in 2016.
