The Metropolitan Regional Career and Technical Center (The Met School) received a $10,000 grant from the Verizon Foundation for a class focused on HTML coding. Verizon employees will also offer teaching services to students.
The award marks the second year of Verizon Foundation’s financial support for the education program.
“Verizon continues to be an important part of increasing our students’ knowledge of computers,” said Diane Postoian, the Met’s Learning Through Interests partnership coordinator. “Last year, Verizon volunteer Abraham Pinales taught the class and the students were inspired by his expertise, passion for his work and commitment to working with them.”
“Our students displayed strong commitment to and interest in Verizon’s program. We are grateful for their commitment to our students both in volunteer time and funding to make program expansion a reality,” said Loriana De Crescenzo, director of development and communications for the Met school.
The presentation was made in front of 120 Met school students and staff. Verizon was represented by David J. Ryan, director of systems analysis and programming information technology; Michele Cinquegrano, director of public relations; and Abraham Pinales, network engineer. •
