PROVIDENCE – The Boston company redeveloping a former office building on Weybosset Street to apartments and ground-floor retail plans to seek federal historic preservation tax credits to assist with the $3.5 million conversion.
Developer Dustin Dezube, principal of Weybosset LLC, said in a recent interview the project at 259 Weybosset St. will include conversion to six larger apartments and a retail space at street level, most likely a restaurant.

The company purchased the building in December 2014 but waited several years for the downtown Providence residential market to improve before pursuing the conversion, he explained.
The development team is in discussion now with an acclaimed burger restaurant in Warren that may locate an eatery in the first floor. Chomp Kitchen and Drinks has signed a letter of intent to occupy the renovated space on completion, according to Dezube.
