SMITHFIELD – Navigant Credit Union partnered with R.I. General Treasurer James A. Diossa and the Colombian American Cultural Society on a fundraising effort that raised $24,534 for communities in Colombia affected by an Aug. 10 earthquake.
The funds will support the department of Chocó, one of the regions significantly impacted by the earthquake, according to the organizations.

The initiative brought together Rhode Islanders with ties to Colombia, with Navigant providing support for the fundraising effort alongside Diossa, the Colombian American Cultural Society and community leaders.
“We were proud to partner with Treasurer Diossa and the Colombian American Cultural Society to support those affected by this devastating earthquake,” Kathleen C. Orovitz, CEO and president of Navigant, said in a statement. “The generosity shown by Rhode Islanders throughout this effort has been truly inspiring.”
Diossa, who is Colombian American, said the fundraising effort demonstrated the Rhode Island community’s connection to Colombia.
“I am incredibly grateful to every Rhode Islander who donated, shared our message, and helped make this effort possible,” Diossa said in a statement.
Natalia Ramírez, president of the Colombian American Cultural Society, also thanked Diossa, Navigant and those who contributed to the effort.
