National Grid gets $2.3M in stimulus funds for efficiency improvements

PROVIDENCE – National Grid has been awarded a $2.3 million American Reinvestment and Recovery Act of 2009 grant to offer oil- and propane-using consumers incentives to make energy-efficiency improvements.
Residents who use oil or propane will be able to request a free, home energy assessment through National Grid’s EnergyWise program. According to a news release, the home energy assessment will recommend weatherization measurers including insulation, air and duct sealing, attic ventilation, installation of programmable thermostats, the replacement of heating systems older than 15 years old, and the replacement of water heaters older than 10 years old.
Residents will be eligible to receive rebates on 25 percent of the total cost of recommended energy efficiency improvements for a maximum of $2,250 per home.
According to the release, the program will not pay to switch the fuel that is used to heat a home. •
