WOONSOCKET – CVS Caremark Corp.’s retail pharmacy customers can now download their prescription and medication information to their Microsoft Corp. HealthVault accounts under a deal the two companies announced late last month.
CVS/pharmacy customers must first sign up for and be authenticated by CVS.com’s online prescription management service. After that, they can copy their information to their electronic health-record (EHR) on HealthVault.

“This not only helps consumers take better control of their medication plans but also enables individuals to provide their physicians with visibility to their prescription history for better coordination of care,” David Cerino, general manager of consumer health in Microsoft’s Health Solutions Group, said in a statement.
CVS Caremark first agreed to partner with HealthVault in June 2008, but until now the service has only been available to patients using the company’s pharmacy-benefit management (PBM) services.
“By enabling patients to download their prescription information directly into their personal HealthVault record, we are helping them access and maintain a more complete view of their medication history, one that can easily be shared and discussed with the health care providers who are managing their overall health,” Helena Foulkes, executive vice president at CVS Caremark, said in a statement.
CVS Caremark has also had a records-sharing agreement in place with Google Inc.’s Google Health, a competing service, since May 2008 for PBM customers and since April for CVS/pharmacy customers.
