PROVIDENCE – The life sciences firm NABsys Inc. has appointed Stan Rose, a serial entrepreneur and president of Madison, Wis.-based Rose Ventures Inc., to its board of directors.
Rose, who received his doctorate at MIT, has run a number of life sciences companies, including NimbleGen Systems and Genetic Microsystems. Rose Ventures is a consulting and investment firm focused on the sector that he founded.

“Stan is an accomplished scientist and a proven industry leader who brings a successful track record of founding and growing genomics businesses,” Dr. Barrett Bready, president and CEO of NABsys, said in a statement. “His insights and experiences will help shape our commercialization strategy and guide us in our quest to deliver sequencing technology capable of the throughput and accuracy required to elucidate the genetic basis of complex disease and, ultimately, guide clinical care.”
NABsys is developing a new electronic, solid-state approach to DNA sequencing that combines physical and biochemical methods and would be drastically cheaper than what is presently available.
“The inherent power of electronic detection, combined with solid-state fabrication, provides a viable approach to address the capacity, throughput and performance issues that are currently barriers to widespread adoption,” Rose said in a statement.
In May, NABsys announced that it had raised $4 million from a group of investors that was led by Providence-based venture capital firm Point Judith Capital and included the quasi-public Slater Technology Fund.
