Design Week slated for September

PROVIDENCE – The third annual Design Week celebrating the design industry in Rhode Island will be held Sept. 14-25.
DESIGNxRI, a nonprofit organization that hosts the event, said “11 Days of Design” will showcase the talent, innovation and impact of Rhode Island designers through talks, tours, luncheons, parties and more in multiple communities.

Events include:

  • Ready Set DesignGO, a kickoff party at Arcade Providence showcasing the work of Providence Design Catalyst designers. (Sept. 16; 7 p.m.)
  • Featured Speaker Series, with talks throughout the week in Providence and Newport. (Sept. 14 and 15, 19-21; 6-8:30 p.m.)
  • Eat & Speak Lunches, a series of lunches with tours, panel discussions and talks hosted by designers across the state. (Sept. 19-23; noon to 1:30 p.m.)
  • Women in Design Breakfast, a discussion on the role of women in the design industry, to be held at the R.I. State Library in the Statehouse. (Sept. 21, 8:30-10 a.m.)
  • 3rd Annual RI Design Hall of Fame Party, celebrating emerging and distinguished leaders in the Rhode Island design community, to be held at Rooftop at the ProvidenceG. (Sept. 22, 6-11 p.m.)

James Wynn, vice president of business development at SYPartners in New York and San Francisco, is this year’s keynote speaker, which is hosted in partnership with Rhode Island School of Design.
A 1998 RISD graduate, Wynn helps build partnerships, culture and experiences for SYPartners clients, bringing a background in branding and experience design with companies including Remy Martin and Porche Design USA.
