PROVIDENCE – Four Rhode Island hotels are among U.S. News & World Report’s “Best Hotels in the USA” 2020 rankings released on Tuesday.
The 409 hotels honored this year are ranked based on awards and recognition received by a hotel, the hotel’s class rating, and guest ratings provided by TripAdvisor.

The Ocean House in Westerly was the highest ranked of all Rhode Island hotels at No. 25 in the country. The Ocean House was also featured at No. 13 for Best Resorts in the USA 2020 list.
“You’ll feel like you stepped back in time once you’ve stayed at the Ocean House’s classic New England retreat,” U.S. News’ summary of the hotel reads. “This historic resort has been lovingly restored to its original design, down to window placements and interior wall hues. But recent guests don’t visit for nostalgia’s sake. Rather, they come for the courteous and attentive service staff and the secluded feel of the resort’s grounds and beach.”
The three other hotels in Rhode Island on the list were all ranked lower than No. 175:
- Chanler at Cliff Walk in Newport ranked second highest in the Ocean State for 2020 at No. 176 overall.
- Weekapaug Inn in Westerly ranked third highest in the state and No. 345 overall.
- The Vanderbilt, Auberge Resorts Collection, located in Newport, ranked fourth highest in Rhode Island, at No. 406 overall.
The Four Seasons Resort Lanai in Hawaii ranked No. 1 for 2020, followed by The Langham, Chicago, the Peninsula, Chicago, both in Illinois, and the Acqualina Resort and Residences on the Beach in Florida.
The highest-ranked New England hotel for 2020 was Twin Farms in Barnard, Vt., at No. 19, followed by The Ocean House and then Wequassett Resort and Gold Club in Harwich, Mass., at No. 52.
