7 R.I. school districts receive $347K to support homeless students

PROVIDENCE – Seven school districts have been awarded $347,659 in total federal funds through the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act Education for Homeless Children and Youth grant program to help support students experiencing homelessness.

Gov. Daniel J. McKee and R.I. Education Commissioner Angélica Infante-Green said the subgrants are renewable for up to three years.

The districts that received the grants had to demonstrate a developed project that helps facilitate enrollment attendance and success of students who are homeless, McKee and Infante-Green said.

The districts that received the grants and their amounts are:

  • Middletown – $50,000
  • Providence – $50,000
  • Warwick – $50,000
  • North Kingstown – $49,788
  • Woonsocket – $49,426
  • West Warwick – $45,299
