PROVIDENCE – Based at Providence Public Library, the R.I. Family Literacy Initiative received a $10,000 grant from Wells Fargo in support of statewide adult literacy programs, including general literacy and citizenship instruction.
Mike Holden, senior vice president and complex manager for Wells Fargo Advisors in Providence, said in a statement, the company feels a responsibility to “create more resilient, sustainable communities.”

In the statement, he added: “We are proud to support the Providence Public Library’s Rhode Island Family Literacy Initiative, which is working to provide critical literacy and workforce-development skills to adults throughout the state.”
More than 250 adult immigrants from more than 50 countries are enrolled in the program’s 2016-17 academic calendar, which includes beginning, intermediate and advanced level English as a Second Language and transitions to college and career classes. Programming is taught at 13 locations throughout the state such as public libraries, schools, public housing, employment centers and factories.
