PROVIDENCE – Prices for self-serve, regular unleaded gasoline in Rhode Island increased 1 cent to $2.35 per gallon despite the strain on the energy sector in Texas this week due to Hurricane Harvey, according to AAA Northeast on Monday.
Prices in the Ocean State are 3 cents below the national average of $2.38 and 14 cents higher year over year.

“In spite of the havoc wreaked on Gulf Coast oil refineries by Hurricane Harvey this weekend, gas prices in the Northeast have remained relatively stable since Friday,” Lloyd Albert, AAA Northeast’s senior vice president of public and government affairs, said in a news release. “Whether that trend continues, of course, depends on how quickly refineries are able to resume normal production. The aftermath of Harvey may put additional upward pressure on local prices as Labor Day approaches.”
The average price for self-serve, midgrade unleaded gasoline in Rhode Island was $2.60 Monday, ranging from $2.49 to $2.80. Premium unleaded prices averaged $2.78, ranging from $2.59 to $2.90.
Gas prices in Massachusetts also increased this week, rising 2 cents to $2.27 per gallon for self-serve, regular unleaded gasoline. Massachusetts gas prices were 11 cents below the national average and 15 cents higher year over year.
The average price for self-serve, midgrade unleaded gasoline in Massachusetts was $2.50 per gallon, ranging from $2.33 to $2.70.
Prices for premium unleaded in the Bay State were $2.68 per gallon this week, ranging from $2.46 to $2.96.
