PROVIDENCE – Nearly 12,000 Rhode Island National Grid customers and more than 8,000 customers in Bristol County, Mass., were still without power as of 9:15 a.m. Monday morning following the weekend nor’easter that brought high winds and flooding to Rhode Island and Massachusetts, according to power utility.
The U.S. Department of Energy reported that more than 2 million customer outages were reported due to the East Coast storm on Friday. National Grid Rhode Island estimated that at its peak, more than 150,000 Rhode Island customers were without power. In Massachusetts, it was reported that 156,742 customers lost power at its outage peak.

Boston.com reported that the storm killed eight people this weekend, primarily due to falling trees, including one Newport resident.
National Grid PLC estimated that it will restore power to most Rhode Island customers by noon on Monday. In Providence County, some customers are not expected to regain power until Tuesday afternoon.
Meanwhile, the National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for Wednesday. The NWS estimates the storm could bring six or more inches of snow to Rhode Island. It expects that the northwest Rhode Island will receive the most snow, while the impact on the coast will be minimal. However, the NWS also advised that estimates will likely change over the next 48 hours.
