PROVIDENCE – Construction has begun on two temporary parking lots in the Jewelry District that will allow workers at the Garrahy Judicial Complex to park near their building when the state-financed Garrahy garage gets underway.
Contractors were installing electrical lines for the parking lot lighting this week. Although the two parking areas are temporary – they are to be removed once the Garrahy courthouse garage opens – they will have lighting and security fencing.

The parking garage will accommodate tenants of the Wexford Science & Technology innovation campus, as well as courthouse employees and visitors, when it is completed. Garage construction is expected to start once the temporary parking lots are completed. The garage, a massive block-sized structure, will take two years to complete.
The I-195 Redevelopment District Commission agreed to the temporary use of Parcels 27 and 28 last year. The lots may also be used by the Wexford tenants, if the Garrahy garage is not complete when the innovation center building is occupied.
