Providence, RI – December 20, 2013 – Today, BlumShapiro, the largest regional accounting, tax and business consulting firm based in New England, is pleased to announce the promotion of four of its employees Michael Karolewski, Monica Motta, Michael Ferri and Michael Pendergast to partners at the firm. All four previously served as principals at Sullivan & Company prior to its merger with BlumShapiro in early 2013.

Michael Ferri previously served as a principal in BlumShapiro’s Accounting and Auditing and Tax Departments before becoming a partner. Ferri has extensive experience providing audit, tax and consulting services to clients involved in manufacturing and distribution as well as in the hospitality and precious metals industries, many of which have global operations. Additionally, he provides clients with a unique mix of both audit and tax expertise that brings tremendous benefit to a company’s bottom-line. Ferri graduated from Providence College where he received a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and from Bryant University where he received a Master of Science in Taxation. He currently serves as a board member on the French-American School of Rhode Island and is a mentor through the Providence College Presidents’ Council Executive Career Mentor Program.
Mike Karolewski, formerly a principal at the firm, performs audit and tax engagements for clients in a diverse number of industries, including manufacturing, real estate, technology and professional services. Karolewski holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Bryant University and is an active member of his local community. He currently serves as the treasurer of the Smithfield Youth Soccer Association Board of Directors and is a member of the Northern Rhode Island Chamber of Commerce.
Monica Motta served as a principal at Sullivan and Company prior to her position as partner working with both for-profit and non-profit healthcare organizations, including skilled nursing facilities, home health agencies and long-term care facilities. As partner, Motta will advise clients on today’s environment of ever-changing regulations, reporting and funding guidelines, staying abreast of federal and local requirements and changes. Additionally, she will assist with the preparation of Certificate of Need and Change of Ownership applications as well as operating budgets, projections and forecasts for the long-term care industry. A graduate of the University of Rhode Island with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting, Motta is active in the Rhode Island Assisted Living Association, Rhode Island Health Care Association, Leading Age, and the Massachusetts Senior Care Association. In addition she also serves on the Board of Directors for the Coastline EAP, Rhode Island Student Assistance Services, and is involved with the Leading Women of Southeastern Rhode Island.
Michael Pendergast served as a principal in BlumShapiro’s Litigation Services and Business Valuation Group prior to his promotion to partner. Pendergast provides expert business valuations and in-person testimony in cases such as divorce, shareholder disputes and business acquisitions. He was in the first class in the state of Rhode Island to be certified with the distinction of Accredited in Business Valuation (ABV). As a member of the firm’s tax practice, he also reviews tax compliance work, performs tax research and represents clients before the Internal Revenue Service. Pendergast is a graduate of Bryant University, where he earned a bachelor of science in accounting and a Masters in taxation.
