PROVIDENCE – The Miriam Hospital’s intensive care unit has earned the highest level of recognition from the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses.
The national organization presented the unit with its gold Beacon Award for Excellence, a designation that will remain in place for the next three years.

Hasbro Children’s Hospital’s pediatric intensive care unit and Rhode Island Hospital’s intermediate cardiothoracic and cardiothoracic intensive care units are all current silver Beacon Award for Excellence recipients.
The award recognizes caregivers who improve patient outcomes and adhere to standards set by the AACCN that include achievements in leadership, staffing, communications, best practice and processes, and outcome measurement.
“This distinction is recognition of the intensive care unit’s unwavering commitment to the very highest level of quality and compassionate care, as well as the outstanding outcomes that result from the unit’s teamwork and professional collaboration,” said Maria Ducharme, chief nursing officer and senior vice president of patient care services at The Miriam.
