BCC expanding health care program in N.B.

NEW BEDFORD – Bristol Community College expects to expand the number of students who can take allied health courses by adding classroom and lab space in downtown New Bedford financed through a partnership with The Princeton Review.
School officials said the expanded program will address a shortage of nurses and other health care workers projected in the coming years. Nearly 1,000 people apply for only 72 slots in BCC’s nursing program annually, according to Jack Sbrega, the school president.
It wasn’t immediately clear how many more students would be accepted for the additional space, but officials said enrollment would begin in the fall.
The Princeton Review, a Framingham, Mass.-based test preparation and admissions consulting firm, is expected to invest several million dollars over the next year to build new classrooms and labs. &#8226
