Quality Partners of Rhode Island and the Rhode Island Health Care Association are hosting a daylong Quality Improvement Fair this Wednesday at Rhodes on the Pawtuxet in Cranston, offering educational sessions geared to doctors, hospital and nursing home staff, home health care providers and the general public.
The event, which runs from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., is meant to be held annually in the future.
The keynote address, to be delivered by Dr. Eric A. Coleman, will focus on improving the safety of care transitions. There will also be a “State of the State” presentation on health care quality issues in the state; a session on setting a national agenda for health care quality and safety; and discussions of how to reduce pressure ulcers, reduce the use of patient restraints, avoiding medication interactions, meeting the needs of gay and lesbian seniors, reducing pain, and motivating staff, among other topics.
In addition, there will be presentations on innovative projects under way in the state, including the Nursing Home of the Future initiative at the Business Innovation Factory and the Prairie Avenue Revitalization Initiative, an effort to revitalize South Providence that includes health care providers.
Participants may come for the day or for an individual session. The cost is $25 per person, and participants will receive one continuing education unit per hour of learning from the Rhode Island Health Care Association.
