PROVIDENCE – Pioneering Technology Inc., of Mississaugo, Ontario, this week announced that Rhode Island’s Providence Housing Authority will receive a $95,000 grant for the purchase of fire safety equipment.
The grant, from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Fire Prevention and Safety program, will be used to purchase and install Pioneering Technology’s Safe-T-element cooking technology.
The primary goal of the program, according to Pioneering Technology, is to “target high-risk populations and mitigate high incidences of death and injury.”
Providence Housing Authority, founded during 1939, has more than 5,700 tenants in 13 public housing complexes across the city. For more information, visit

I’m wondering why a company from Ontario, Canada is apparently managing a U.S. Department of Homeland Security grant. I’m sure there is a good explanation, but it sure seems strange as presented in this article.
