PROVIDENCE – 41st Latitude Inc. today announced the launch of QuickWhatsUp.com, an event-finding and social networking site for daily entertainment and nightlife throughout Rhode Island.

“Our goal is to enable people to find something fun to do on a Friday night with as few clicks as possible. Just punch in the date and the type of entertainment you’re looking for and you’ve got dozens of events at your fingertips.”
Resler, a Brown University graduate, and Katie-lyn Merolla, QuickWhatsUp.com’s co-founder and vice president, quietly launched a beta version of the Web site earlier this month.
They are now giving every entertainment venue in the state a free account to post its events. A diverse range of venues already have started listing their events, ranging from concert promoter LiveNation to gaming facility Twin River to the Providence Roller Derby to improvisational comedy troupe Improv Jones to the Warwick Museum of Art.
41st Latitude Inc. is able to offer the services on QuickWhatsUp.com for free because it generates revenue by hosting its own events, Merolla said. In the past year, the company has held nearly 150 events throughout the state, including fashion shows, Chinese New Year parties, and an American Idol-style talent competition, she said.
Resler worked for a decade in the music industry before co-founding the business. He started his radio career as the music director and an on-air personality for 95.5 WBRU in Providence, before working at rock stations in St. Louis, Boston and Seattle. In 2003, he returned to WBRU as the station’s program director.
Katie-lyn Merolla, an Emerson College graduate, has handled sales and marketing for Screenvision Cinema Advertising in New York City, Brown Broadcasting in Providence, Graham Advertising in Colorado Springs, and Sigma Associates in Columbus, Ga.
