The Rhode Island chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society has been recognized by the national organization with the Pamela Cavallo Award for its work in client programs, professional education programs and advocacy.
“We are extremely honored to have our programs and our advocacy work recognized for their quality,” said Kathy Mechnig, chapter president. “This award reflects hours of dedication by our programs staff, advocates and volunteers.”
The national organization recognized the client program “Monster Bash,” which combined education and a Halloween party. It also singled out the chapter’s “Newly Diagnosed Dinners” and a professional education program called “Faces Out of Place: Meeting the Needs of Younger Adults with MS in Long Term Care.”
In addition, it recognized the chapter for its advocacy work in 2006, which led to the General Assembly’s passage of legislation to allow for coverage of injectable MS drugs by the state’s pharmaceutical assistance program.
