AAA: R.I. gas prices fall 2¢ to $2.659

PROVIDENCE – Gasoline prices in Rhode Island have resumed their decline after a one-week pause, falling 2 cents per gallon over the past week, according to AAA Southern New England.
AAA’s Sept. 17 survey found self-serve, regular gasoline averaging $2.659 per gallon, 1 cent above the year-ago price of $2.649, after falling for eight of the past nine weeks.
Nationwide, the average price for self-serve regular in the nonprofit auto club’s latest survey was $2.789 per gallon, 13 cents higher than in Rhode Island.
The range in prices for for self-serve regular at local stations this week was 21 cents, from $2.589 per gallon to $2.799.
AAA found wider price ranges for other grades of fuel. Average self-serve prices this week were $2.799 for midgrade unleaded, $2.919 for premium unleaded and $3.089 for diesel.
