AAA: R.I. gas prices steady at $2.179/gallon

Rhode Island gasoline prices last week held steady after straight week of declines, according to AAA Southern New England.

AAA’s Feb. 12 survey of gas prices in Rhode Island found self-serve, unleaded regular averaging $2.179 per gallon, the same as last week and 24 cents less than at the beginning of the year. One year ago, the average price was $2.319.

The range in prices for self-serve regular in the latest survey was 17 cents, from a low of $2.119 to a high of $2.289, the nonprofit auto club reported. AAA reported wider price ranges for other grades of fuel, and advised motorists to shop around.

Average self-serve prices for other grades of fuel this week were $2.309 per gallon for midgrade unleaded; $2.439 for premium unleaded; and $2.689 for diesel.
