Applied Science opens Shanghai office

NARRAGANSETT – Applied Science Associates Inc., a science and technology solutions company with offices around the world, recently opened an office in Shanghai.
ASA said the new office reflected its commitment to support clients and deliver environmental and technology solutions in China and the East Asia region. ASA CEO Eoin Howlett visited China earlier this month to see the new location.
The company said its involvement in China began in 1998, and since then its oil-spill response tools have been widely used in the country.
Haiwei Shen, ASA’s technical director in Shanghai, plans to work closely with Xiongping Zhang, the company’s director of programs for East Asia. The pair were joined by ASA Principal Deborah French McCay at the office’s September launch, which featured a workshop for local scientists and government officials covering natural resource damage assessment, and oil and chemical spill modeling in the region.
In addition to its Rhode Island headquarters and the new Shanghai location, ASA has offices in Australia, Brazil and Dubai.
