Bridge opens in Quonset

(Corrected, Nov. 11)
NORTH KINGSTOWN – The new Romano Vineyard Way Bridge in Quonset opened Nov. 3 on time and under budget, the Quonset Development Corporation said.
The bridge carries the roadway over the train tracks at Davisville Road, eliminating an at-grade crossing that had become increasingly busy in recent years, raising safety concerns.
The bridge was paid for with a combination of federal transportation money and Quonset Development Corporation funds.
“This bridge makes the parcels south of Davisville Road much more attractive to the marketplace,” said QDC Managing Director Steven J. King. “Companies would be reluctant to have their employees wait in their cars for a train filled with autos to go by for long periods of time.”
The project took a little over a year to complete and included the planting of 500 trees.
With the new bridge in place, Bailey Road will be closed permanently starting Nov. 21.
