An upscale British cosmetics retailer that specializes in handmade products is preparing to open a store in June at Providence Place mall, adding to the mall’s already substantial array of cosmetics stores ranging from The Body Shop to Sephora to Aveda.
LUSH, which has more than 370 shops in 32 countries, including locations at Harvard Square and on Boston’s Newbury Street, has set a goal of having 1,000 stores worldwide by 2008.
Spokeswoman Brandi Halls said Providence Place appealed to the retailer because of its success and tenants.
“In our eyes, Providence Place is a terrific property,” Halls said. “[It] is a premier shopping destination with 170 specialty shops, several of which are exclusive first-to-the-market concepts. The retail sales at Providence Place are impressive, and our location within the mall allows us to be positioned alongside some top brands – great neighbors in our opinion.”
One of those neighbors, Sephora, only moved in last December, offering fragrances, makeup and skin care products. LUSH takes a different approach, focusing on what Halls called “a truly fresh” experience. Its “beauty delis,” she added, overflow “with fresh and handmade bath, body, skin care and hair care products that are jam-packed with natural and organic ingredients.”
